About the museum

The Ostroh Book and Printing Museum was opened in the Tower on December 10, 1985, and it was financed from the budget of the Book Lovers Society. Svitlana Pozikhovska is the author of the thematic-exposition plan of the museum. Today, the collection contains 4 900 exhibits of the main museum fund, including almost one and a half thousand early printed books of the 16th-18th centuries, including the Ostroh Bible (1581), and about 150 manuscripts of the 16th-21st centuries. The exposition is based on a significant book collection, the beginnings of the formation of which are associated with the activities of the Brotherhood named after the princes Ostrozki, which set itself the goal to restore the castle of the princes Ostrozki, to create a historical museum and a library in it. In 1910, the Brotherhood started a collection of artifacts in Ostroh, to which the first books were provided, including the Ostroh Bible in 1581, nine other manuscripts and early printed books. Today, the collection contains 4 900 books, which are exhibits of the main museum fund, including almost one and a half thousand early printed books of the 15th-18th centuries and about 150 manuscripts of the 16th-21st centuries. The complex restoration was carried out in 1984-1985. In 2007, the restoration was not completed.
